introduction

Welcome to my website which I hope you will find enjoyable and of interest. Thank you for visiting.

I have lived in Cornwall for 31 years with my family and work from my studio which is at the top of a tower adjoining our house near the Helford River. I am lucky to live and work in a county thriving in artists and craftsmen whose work is a constant source of inspiration as well as the river which I am so close to.

The highly individual craft of batik has fascinated me for many years and the majority of my work is in this medium, although I also enjoy mosaic work, printmaking and life drawing.
Many of the processes are stimulated by the experience of being in a particular place at a particular time.

I strive to capture the sea life in my work and reflect the wild nature of our coastline.
I wanted to bring something different to batik and so I am always exploring new possibilities and techniques in this art of painting through the application of wax and paint or dye, merging imagination with memory. I use colours that make me feel good and so enjoy the unexpected results of the action of wax and dye on paper and textiles. My work has evolved from early figurative subjects through to more recent abstractions of nature and life.

Over the last five years I have devoted more time to mosaic work and developed a style incorporating a variety of materials including stones, shells, beads as well as traditional tesserae and smalti. Different textures are created by using these different materials and each piece is original and unique. I run day workshops in shell mosaics for small groups, suitable for beginners and those who want to try something new.
